Alignment

In the orchestra of life’s happenings at Kalijo, Mondays tend to be a day to align the week ahead. One particular Monday, Feb 11th, was one never to be forgotten in our studio. One that several people in our studio will recall with a sense of awe.

A dear student of ours, arrived for his bi-weekly private lesson, while celebrating his 70th Birthday. Brisk and cheery, he showed up seeming SPICY with life, to live this day out in celebration, starting off with Pilates. His lesson began as usual, a bit of catch up on how he was feeling, his plans for this birthday, breath work and exercises to center him. He was happy and on his way. Half way through his session, all things planned for his day drastically changed.

He fell into a full blown cardiac arrest and into the arms of his teacher. His teacher handled the crisis with clear precise action. She kept his heart beating as she had learned through her CPR training. With the support of another instructor, a trainee, and 911 on the phone, she was guided and encouraged to persevere until the ambulance arrived.

All things aligned as needed to get him to our local hospital and then flown to Vancouver, BC, to St Paul’s hospital where he now recovers from emergency triple bypass surgery.

Long story short, the alignment of those involved and those caring for the studio space, its teachers, trainees and all the people, his family and friends, was a blessing.

I am filled with so much gratitude knowing that our community and Kalijo family acted in total unison during this crisis. The trust and love that has come out of this day, align with all that I have dreamt of in creating this studio… A place for EVERYBODY and every BODY!

Kalijo Pilates’ guiding principles are simple. We are aware that we do not know everything, but we are happy to pass on what we do know. We strive for harmony and balance of body, mind and spirit – within a sense of reality. We believe that Pilates is not for everyone, but that you have to TRY IT to find out if it is right for you. Healthy natural movement is our passion.

With alignment, all things come together to create a healthy dynamic and interactive environment. I am assured that when you join us at Kalijo Pilates studio, we will meet you and collaborate with you to co-create a safe beneficial form of physical fitness because as Joe Pilates wrote “Physical fitness is the first requisite of happiness.”

Pilates, at whatever stage of life you are in “returns you to life”, or brings you back home in one way or another. With the Classical Pilates Method we ask you what you are looking for and then try to align with it. We feel we provide something UNIQUE. We teach students how to breath properly while bringing awareness to physical alignment and fluid movement. We support you in finding control over your life in NEW ways with ease, grace, and strength.

Whether you are just starting out or want to increase your training, we are here at Kalijo to help you align your goals this spring.

In health and joy,
Katherine and the Kalijo Team
